SURRENDER A PET
If you have a pet you can no longer care for and need to surrender, please call the shelter ahead of time (recommended 2 to 4 weeks ahead) to make arrangements. As our rate of successful adoption for dogs is high, we are usually able to take surrendered dogs as the need arises. A waiting list is almost always utilized for surrendered pet cats, as our number of cat intakes is quite high.
The surrender lists are used due to space restraints, as Arnell accepts surrendered pets on a space-available basis. Your pet will be placed on a surrender waiting list. Pets from Polk County are given first priority.
As kennel space becomes available, you will be called to bring your pet into the shelter, in the order your name was placed on the list. This procedure ensures your pet an available kennel and the shelter the ability to better help your pet find a new home.
A financial donation in the amount you can afford is required for each pet surrendered. Each pet brought to Arnell costs our organization approximately $100 to find a new home. We understand that not everyone is able to cover this entire amount and that is why we ask for an amount you can afford to be donated toward the cost of finding your pet a new home. We also ask that you bring any veterinary medical records your pet may have at the time of surrender.
If you are able to find a suitable home for your pet before you are called, please call us at 715-268-7387 to let us know that you will no longer need to surrender your pet.
SNAP (SPAY-NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)
The focus of our SNAP (spay and neuter assistance program) is to combat pet overpopulation one surgery at a time. Low-income households are eligible for greatly reduced surgery fees with our SNAP voucher program.
Qualifying households will be able to purchase a spay or neuter voucher for cat surgery for $40 or for dog surgery for $80. An additional fee of $5 will provide a pet with a one-year rabies vaccination. Purchase of a Rabies Vaccine is required for animals without proof of a current vaccine. Cat Surgery with Rabies Vaccine: $45. Dog Surgery with Rabies Vaccine: $85.
As our funding is limited, the Arnell SNAP program is offered to Polk County residents only. If you are not a resident of Polk County, please call your local humane society for information of low-cost spay-neuter programs in your area.
Qualification for this program is similar to the guidelines for a county-or state-based assistance program. Documentation from public assistance programs such as food stamps, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, unemployment benefits, or pay stubs from an employer or a previous year's tax return and a photo ID, will qualify you for this program.
You may visit the shelter in Amery to complete the application and acquire a voucher for your pet's surgery. Please call ahead to make an appointment as the shelter is currently Open By Appointment Only.
If you are mailing your application, photocopies of income verification, program cards, and a photo ID should accompany your application with payment by check for each voucher being purchased.
Please do not make an appointment for surgery before you have your voucher in hand. If you do not qualify for the program, your application and payment will be returned to you.
Please return your application in person with required documentation and fees:
Arnell Memorial Humane Society
185 Griffin St. East
Amery WI 54001
Required documentation:
1) Completed SNAP application
2) Valid Wisconsin drivers license
3) Proof of any public assistance programs you participate in
4) Proof of monthly household income
5) Proof of current rabies vaccine for each animal. If the animal is not current on the rabies vaccine, you will be required to pay $10 to AMHS. The 1-year rabies vaccine will be included in the SNAP voucher and administered by the vet clinic on the date of surgery.
Voucher Cost:
Cats are $50 without rabies vaccine and $60 with rabies vaccine.
Dogs are $90 without the rabies vaccine and $100 with rabies vaccine.
We accept cash or credit card payments, please no personal checks.
Arnell SNAP Voucher surgeries will be performed at the following local participating veterinary clinic:

In addition to the cost of the SNAP voucher through AMHS, there are additional fees required by Northwest Vet;

Pain Medication $33
E-Collar $8-$18
